16 Exposure:
BRAZILIAN
By Araquém ALCÂNTARA
DE 27 OF DEZEMBRO A 08 MARCH 2009
In Brazilian, as in almost all his work, Araquém prioritizes photography as artistic expression and instrument of social transformation, consolidating their work that places him as one of the most outspoken artists in defense of the country's natural heritage, particularly the Amazon and the Atlantic.
The 30 photographs presented in this exhibition are a summary of the book Brazilians, released in 2004, where Araquém portrays with dignity and strong sense of national identity Brazilian man and all his exuberance, using photography as a powerful weapon of knowledge and tool documentation. The photographer takes his work as a political compromise, but always with a contemplative look that betrays his passion for all that shooting.
"Araquém is wanderer, traveler, pioneer in contemporary environmental documentation. He makes poems and uses photography as a tool of knowledge and pleasure. His work is among the first to create a memory and a visual identity for the country, trans-porting us to unknown spaces and extremely rare beauty. A look politicized and enlightening, necessarily comprehensive and patient, marked by the enchantment of revealing the dignity of the Brazilian people and the exuberance of our nature. Araquém is a collector of worlds ".
